At Rose and Lyle we select leathers suited to the design but also for their individual beauty, authenticity, performance and feel. Each hide is unique with its own characteristics which gives the leather it’s natural beauty.

Our soft leathers range from natural milled cow leathers to vegetable tanned goat leathers and soft sheep nappa leathers. All these leathers are drum dyed to create depth and saturation of colour, rather than using a painted top finish. They are then naturally milled to soften and enhance the texture and authentic variance within the hides.

Our partners in India also specialise in handcrafted woven leather work, creating products using age old techniques. Each handcrafted bag is either overdyed for a more vintage finish or washed and tumbled to create a softer look. The final process is to hand burnish each piece to enhance the natural beauty of the weave, creating individuality and uniqueness.

Our aim is to always showcase natural leather and authentic leather finishes, with the overdye process being one of our favourites. This process involves drum dying the bags in their natural state, they are then tumbled, washed and, once dry, hand burnished to create pieces with natural variance and characteristics.
